Ceremony of awarding medal for the First Secretary of the Australian Embassy

On August the 2nd, 2016 at the headquarter of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the Medal for the cause of Agriculture and Rural Development had been awarded by the Vice Minister Le Quoc Doanh for Ms. Wendy Conway Lamb – the First secretary of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam.

This is one of the noblest medal of MARD awarded to people who made great contributions to the cause of the sector. Attended the ceremony were representatives from Directorates for Forestry and Water Resources, International Cooperation Department, Science &Technology Department, Management Board of Forestry Projetcs and the colleagues from Australian Embassy.

Wendy Conway Lamb’s valuable support and her ardour for the agricultural and socio-economic development of Vietnam are highly appreciated by Doanh on behalf of MARD. In her working time from 2013 to 2016, Wendy has a good cooperation and collaboration with our scientific and technical staff in guiding and implementing “Community-based Climate Change Action Grants Program” with total budget of 15 million AUD, “Integrated Coastal Management Program - ICMP” (the Coastal Climate Change and Ecosystem Program – CCCEP in the past) with the budget of 23 million AUD, “Enhance institutional capacity in natural disaster risk management in Vietnam Program” with the budget of 2.8 million AUD. At work, Wendy has shown great responsibility and careful working style, particularly in community based solutions to address climate change. She has been also very active in partnership building, especially for the sustainable development in the Mekong Delta.


MARD highly appreciate the invaluable contribution of Wendy to the agriculture and rural development sector in Vietnam and decided to award her this noble prize.


On this occasion, on behalf of the MARD, Doanh expressed the sincere thanks for the support of the  Australian Government and Embassy, Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, especially the great thank to Wendy. Vietnam and Australia cooperation has been increasingly expanding in which agriculture and rural development sector has received a lot of supports from Australian Government and Embassy, particularly from personal Australian experts and officials through ODA research and technical assistance projects. These supports are very effective, contributed much to the agriculture and rural development in Vietnam, and also made a crutial foundation for the close cooperation between Australia and Vietnam in future.


“Wishing Wendy Conway Lamb a good health and happiness and do hope that she will return Vietnam or in her new position to continuously support MARD in response to climate change, agriculture and rural development” – Doanh said.

Receiving the medal, Wendy Conway Lamb expressed her thank to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the colleagues for their loves and recognition that had been shown so far during her working in Vietnam. She asserted that agricultural sector is an important area of Australia and Vietnam cooperation. She was glad to witness the successful programs and projects funded by Australia in Vietnam and their transition from pilot to scaling up nationwide. There will be more and more cooperation programs between the two Governments in various fields, especially in agriculture, rural development and adaptation to climate change, she expected.
