Launch of the project "Upscaling of Sustainable Forest Management and Certification in Vietnam" (SFM)

On the morning of July 26, in Tuy Hoa city (Phu Yen), the Management Board for Forestry Projects and the German Development Cooperation Organization (GIZ) held a kick-off ceremony for the project "Upscaling of Sustainable Forest Management and Certification in Vietnam" (SFM). Attending the ceremony were representatives of the People's Committee of Phu Yen province, Vietnam Administration of Forestry, Department of International Cooperation - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Forest Certification Office, Forestry University and representatives of 03 project provinces (Quang Tri, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen).

The SNRM2 project organized training on operating mobile application in forest management and monitoring for the forest rangers in Lao Cai province

Within the framework of implementing the 2022 plan of SNRM2 Project, to improve knowledge and skills in operating the Forest Resource Monitoring System (FRMS) , SNRM2 project and Lao Cai Provincial Forest Protection Department chaired and coordinated to organize a training course on "Operating mobile applications in forest management and monitoring" from 20 - 22/7/2022 at the Headquarters of the Lao Cai Provincial Forest Protection Department, Lao Cai city, Lao Cai province.

Wildlife conservation – ceaseless efforts

According to statistics from SMART data of Save VietNam's Wildlife, from June 2018 to June 2022, in Pu Mat National Park - Nghe An province, more than 700 violators were arrested, nearly 14,000 traps of all kinds and 107 guns were confiscated and 971 illegal camps were destroyed.

Recently, in A Luoi District - Thua Thien Hue province, the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) organized an intensive training course on ecotourism marketing for some ethnic communities in Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces. This is an activity under Sub-Component 6 of the VFBC Project to improve the livelihoods of communities living in buffer zones of national protected areas, national parks, and nature reserves.

Management Board for Forestry Project - Training on disseminating the Law on State Secrets Protection and the Law on Cybersecurity

On 18 July 2022, in Hanoi, the Management Board for Forestry Projects held a training conference on the Law on State Secrets Protection and the Law on Cybersecurity for all officers and employees.

Local consultation workshop on environmental and social risks related to the implementation of REDD+ performance payment pilot program

On 13 and 14 July 2022, the Project on Enhancing Sustainable Natural Resource Management (SNRM2) sponsored by JICA supported the Vietnam Administration of Forestry - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to organize a "Local consultation workshop on socio-environmental risks related to the implementation of REDD+ performance payment pilot program funded by the Green Climate Fund" in Binh Dinh province.

The SNRM2 project together with the Japanese Embassy surveyed the proposed site for construction of basic works in Son La and Tuyen Quang provinces.

In order to finalize the proposal for grant program funded by the Japanese Embassy, on 22-23 June 2022 and 5-6 July 2022, the Central Project Management Unit – SNRM2 Project and representatives of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam had a field visit to the proposed sites in Son La and Tuyen Quang provinces.

Preventing wildlife consumption: Taking action from the community

Contributing to prevent the consumption of wild animals, recently, nearly 70 food and wild bird businesses in the province simultaneously responded to the commitment of "say no" to the supply of wild animals for customers. This is considered a prerequisite action to contribute to the reduction of wildlife consumption, towards the goal of biodiversity conservation through the restaurant channel.

Tourism culinary training for the Bru-Van Kieu people

(QBĐT) - On June 28, Helvetas organization in collaboration with Netin Tourism Co., Ltd organized a training course on "Tourism cuisine for forest-dependent communities" in the buffer zone of Dong Chau - Khe Nuoc Trong Nature Reserve, Kim Thuy commune (Le Thuy).

The VFBC project signed a cooperation agreement with businesses and cooperatives in Lao Cai province

LCĐT - On the afternoon of June 23, the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) in Lao Cai province held a signing ceremony of cooperation agreement with a number of cooperatives and enterprises who participated in the value chain of medicinal herbs and cinnamon in Lao Cai.

The 30th anniversary of establishing Yok Don National Park

On the afternoon of June 24, Yok Don National Park celebrated its 30th anniversary (June 24, 1992 - June 24, 2022). Attending the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) - Mr Le Quoc Doanh, former Deputy Minister of MARD - Mr Ha Cong Tuan, Mr. Y Giang Gry Nie Knong - Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee.

VFBC project: Propagating and disseminating the law on wildlife for food service establishments in Quang Nam province

On the morning of June 17, in Tam Ky city - Quang Nam province, the Provincial Forest Protection Department in collaboration with the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) held a propaganda session to disseminate the law on wildlife and signed a commitment with food service businesses in the province.

National consultation workshop “On the environmental and social risks associated with the implementation of the results-based REDD+ payments pilot program funded by the Green Climate Fund”

SNRM2 project: Handing over cars to Project Management Unit in Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai provinces

Within the framework of implementing the SNRM2 Project, on 6 and 7 June 2022, at the Management Board for Forestry Projects (MBFP), the SNRM2 Project Management Unit of Lao Cai Province, MBFP and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has handed over 2 new cars funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to the SNRM2 Project Management Units in Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai provinces. Two cars of the SNRM2 project were handed over and managed by the SNRM2 Project Management Units of Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai provinces, for the purpose of implementing project activities in the province.

Signing a financial agreement (50 million USD) to help adapting to climate change in the Mekong Delta

On the afternoon of June 13, 2022, the signing ceremony of a limited financial agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the United States Organization for International Development (USAID) on agriculture adapting to climate change in the Mekong Delta took place in Hanoi. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development – Mr. Le Minh Hoan and US Deputy Secretary of State - Mr. Wendy Sherman, Representative of the US Embassy in Vietnam, and representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, USAID Office, and other relevant units.

Launch of the Saving Threatened Wildlife Project (STW)

On the afternoon of June 13, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) held a ceremony to launch the Saving Threatened Wildlife Project. Attending the ceremony were representatives of a number of agencies belonged to the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Government of Vietnam, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Planning and Investment, and social organizations including domestic and international NGOs and representatives of 11 project provinces.

JICA delegation from Tokyo, Japan worked at the Management Board of Forestry Projects

On the afternoon of 13th June 2022, at the meeting room of the Management Board for Forestry Projects (MBFP), the JICA delegation from Tokyo - Japan had a meeting with the Management Board for Forestry Projects on a number of activities under the Project on Enhancing Sustainable Natural Resource Management (SNRM2), as well as discussing about preparation of a new project.

Start-up workshop of the Saving Threatened Wildlife Project

The VFBC project supports to organize Conference on Policy Implementation, Investment Promotion, Sustainable Forestry Development in Thanh Hoa Province

On 9th June, in Sam Son city - Thanh Hoa province, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the Sustainable Forest Management Component of the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) funded by USAID to organize a conference on policy implementation, investment promotion, sustainable forestry development and a preliminary review of 10 years of implementation of the policy on payment for forest environmental services in the province.

Consultation about the draft Decree amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Decree No. 156/2018/ND-CP

On 3rd June 2022, in Moc Chau - Son La, the General Department of Forestry in collaboration with the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) held a workshop to consult on the contents of draft Decree amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Government's Decree No. 156/2018/ND-CP dated November 16, 2018 detailing the implementation of a number of articles of the Forest Law. The workshop was chaired by Mr. Tran Quang Bao, Deputy Director of the General Department of Forestry.
