FMCR project: Multiple benefits from the coastal mangrove planting project in Quang Ninh

The FMCR project in Quang Ninh province was approved by the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No.1918/QD-UBND dated 7^th May 2019, with total investment cost of 725,285 million VND. Of which, ODA fund allocated from the Central level is 513,810 million VND (ODA allocated through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development: 446,104 million VND; ODA allocated directly to the province: 67,706 million VND); ODA fund on-lend by province: 67,706 million VND; counterpart fund allocated to the province form the central: 49,894 million VND; Provincial counterpart fund: 93,875 million VND.

The project is implemented in 38 communes/wards in 8 districts, towns and cities including: Quang Yen, Ha Long, Van Don, Cam Pha, Tien Yen, Dam Ha, Hai Ha and Mong Cai.

To date, total mangrove planting area of the FMCR project in Quang Ninh province is 840.75 ha (new planting: 151.03 ha; additional planting: 689.72 ha), of which the implementation plan in 2022 is 611.51 ha (New planting: 108.68ha; additional planting: 502.83ha).

The total planted forest area is 730.74/840.75 ha (new planting: 107.7 ha; additional planting and rehabilitation: 623.04 ha), reaching 86.9%. The remaining area of 144.32 ha (new planting: 44.86 ha; additional planting and rehabilitation: 99.46 ha) is expected to be completed in 2023, while carrying out maintenace and protection of  planted areas.

For two packages of upgrading roads for mangrove management and protection, combined with serving the lives and production of people in Hai Ha district and Mong Cai city, construction process has been completed and they have been handed over to the locality for management and use.
