From 8-9 February 2023 in Ninh Binh province, the Biodiversity Conservation Component (VFBC Project) organized a capacity building training course for forest rangers and staff of Cuc Phuong National Park, Ninh Binh province about using Wildlife Insights software in managing biodiversity survey data by image traps.
On the afternoon of February 15, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper, the Management Board for Forestry Projects (MARD) coordinated with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), TRAFFIC International and Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper held a signing ceremony for cooperation in implementing activities of the STW project.
Implementing the 2023 plan, from 8-9 February 2023 in Xuan Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province, the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) in collaboration with Quang Binh Forest Protection Department organized a training course on communication skills on forest and wildlife protection for the community communication groups.
Da Nang, February 14, 2023 - The Saving Threaten Wildlife Project, supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by WWF, spoke with relevant agencies on tools and technologies to combat illegal wildlife trade, by improving the ability to detect and prevent this type of crime at seaports. The workshop with theme on "Strengthening control, detection, investigation and handling of illegal wildlife trade through seaports" was jointly organized by the Management Board for Forestry Projects (MBFP-Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development). Representatives from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the US Department of State, USAID, customs, port authorities of Ho Chi Minh city, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Quy Nhon and TRAFFIC attended this activity.
On 10th February 2023, the Management Unit of the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) in Thua Thien Hue province in collaboration with the Department of Tourism of Thua Thien Hue province, Nam Dong District People's Committee, Vietnam Helvetas and the Vietnam Community Tourism Association organized a seminar to exchange experiences on community tourism and connect community tourism in Thua Thien Hue province.
On the afternoon of 7th February, in Kim Son district (Ninh Binh province), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a kick-off ceremony of afforestation within the framework of the Rehabilitation and Sustainable Management of Mangrove Forests in the Red river Delta.
From 13 to 25 November 2022, the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES-COP19) was held in Panama City, Panama Republic.
In two days from 12-13 January 2023 in Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province, the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) in collaboration with the Forest Protection Department in Phu Loc District, the Commune People's Committee in Loc Tien commune and Lang Co town organized communication activities to raise awareness and understanding for the community about the risks of violating the law from hunting, catching, storing, advertising, trading and using wild animals and wildlife products, and call for the participation of community to join hands to protect wildlife.
On the afternoon of 5th January 2023, in Hanoi, the Management Board for Forestry Projects held the annual conference of 2022 and implementation plan of 2023 in Hanoi.
On 29th December in Dong Ha city, the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) in Quang Tri province held a conference to evaluate activities in 2022 and implement the plan of 2023.

From 19-23 December 2022, in Quang Binh, the Biodiversity Conservation Component (VFBC Project) organized a training course to improve the application of geographic information systems (GIS) in forest resource management for capacity building for forest ranger force of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park and Dong Chau-Khe Nuoc Nature Reserve.
On 27th December 2022, the annual meeting in 2022 between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) of Vietnam and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos took place in Vientiane (Laos).
Communities account for a large proportion of the actors in forest development. However, the current policy is still limited and the location of this group has not been clearly defined. Cooperation on forest management is the coordination, cooperation and voluntary association between the forest management board, State forestry company and the community or between members of the community to jointly manage, protect and develop the forest. With the support of the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) funded by USAID, the workshop “Cooperation on forest management in Vietnam: practice and development” has just been taken place in Hanoi, chaired by the Department of International Cooperation in collaboration with the VNForestry, and with the participation of agencies, departments and experts in related fields. Experts in the forestry sector had a discussion to find out effective forest management models, appropriate roadmaps and policy recommendations, as well as clarify the roles and responsibilities of actors in the cooperation process in forest management, protection and development.
On 8th December 2022, at Thang Loi Hotel, 200 Yen Phu Street, Tay Ho District, Hanoi City, the Project on Enhancing Sustainable Natural Resource Management (SNRM2) held an annual conference on project implementation in 2022 and direction to develop the plan in 2023.
On 8th December 2022, the Central Management Unit of VFBC project cooperated with Vietnam National University of Forestry to organize a Forum on Sustainable Forest Management and Forest Product Value Chain.
From November 30, 2022 to December 1, 2022, the Central Management Unit and Consultant Office of SNRM2 project organized a delegation to work with the SNRM2 Project Management Unit of Lao Cai province and Vinh Yen Cooperative, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province.
On 1st – 2nd December 2022, the VFBC Project Management Unit in Thanh Hoa province held a training course on "Gender mainstreaming and social inclusion (GESI) associated with sustainable forest management" in Nghi Son town, Thanh Hoa province. Participants in the training course were representatives of the Management Board for Forestry Projects; Thanh Hoa Provincial Forest Protection Department; Fund for Forest Protection and Development and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in Thanh Hoa Province; leaders of Provincial People's Committees, leaders of Women's Unions of districts and communes; Forest Protection Departments of project districts in Thanh Hoa province; experts/lecturers of the DAI.
On 30th November 2022, the Saving Threatened Wildlife Project (STW) sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) organized a Workshop on "Advancing social responsibility towards sustainable development and reducing risks from illegal wildlife trade in cyberspace” in Hanoi.
Implementing the plan of 2023, from 24th to 25th November 2022, the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) in collaboration with the Quang Binh Provincial Forest Protection Department, the joint working group of Quang Ninh district (District Police, Forest Protection Sub-department, Market Management Team) implemented the activity of "Dissemination and guidance on legal regulations related to forest and wildlife encroachment" in Van Ninh, An Ninh, Xuan Ninh, Tan Ninh, Truong Xuan and Truong Son communes for officials at commune and village level, restaurant owners and business units in Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province.
On the afternoon of 25th November 2022, at the meeting room of the Management Board for Forestry Projects (MBFP), the Central Management Unit of SNRM2 Project and Consulting Office had an online meeting with the JICA Headquarters in Tokyo
On November 22, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lao Cai province with the support of the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) held a conference to develop a organic cinnamon development plan in Lao Cai province in 2023.
Following the series of activities in 2022, from 6-8th November 2022 in Hoi An city, the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) in collaboration with the Quang Nam Provincial Forest Protection Department hosted a training course on legal knowledge related to wildlife conservation for the community conservation group of communes in the buffer zone of the Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area in Quang Nam province.
